Apple’s M6 MacBook Pro is official. The 14-inch model gets a 12-core chip, up to 24 hours of battery life and Wi-Fi 7, and it starts at ₹2,39,900 in India and $1,999 in the US. The bigger story is what Apple left out: this is the entry Pro, and the long-rumoured OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro is a separate machine.

Here is what changed from the M5, what it costs, and who should wait.

Key takeaways

  • Apple announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on 27 October 2026. Pre-orders open on 28 October and machines reach buyers and stores from 6 November 2026.
  • The M6 has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, two more cores of each than the M5.
  • Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life, its longest ever in a Mac.
  • Prices start at ₹2,39,900 (₹2,27,900 with education pricing) in India and $1,999 in the US.
  • The design stays the same. OLED and touch are not part of this model.

What did Apple announce with the M6 MacBook Pro?

According to Apple’s newsroom announcement, the new laptop is the 14-inch model built on the base M6 chip. Bloomberg reported that it arrived alongside an M6 iMac and called it the entry MacBook Pro, with Apple’s touch laptop still to come.

The outside looks the same: a space black or silver aluminium body, made from 100% recycled aluminium, with the same notch and the same keyboard. All the changes are inside.

How much faster is M6 than M5?

The M6 goes from 10 CPU cores to 12 and from 10 GPU cores to 12. Every GPU core has a Neural Accelerator, which is a small block built to speed up AI maths. Apple also says the M6 has “the world’s fastest CPU core”, though that is Apple’s own claim.

These are Apple’s figures from its own testing against the 14-inch M5 model:

TaskM6 vs M5M6 vs M1 (13-inch)
GraphicsUp to 30% fasterUp to 11x
On-device AIUp to 25% fasterUp to 13x
Xcode project buildUp to 1.3xUp to 2.5x
Blender ray-trace renderUp to 1.3xUp to 11.7x
Affinity image processingUp to 1.2xUp to 3.3x
Neural EngineUp to 1.9x–

Read that table carefully. A 20-30% jump over one generation is a solid bump, not a reason to replace a working M5. The big multipliers only show up when you compare against an M1 from 2020, which is the buyer Apple is really targeting.

Memory starts at 16GB and goes up to 32GB, with bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Bandwidth is how fast data reaches the chip. Think of it as the width of the road and not the speed limit, and it matters most for running local AI models.

What else changed: battery, display and ports

  • Battery: up to 24 hours, with the same performance on battery as plugged in. With a 96W or larger adapter it fast-charges to 50% in about 30 minutes.
  • Display: Liquid Retina XDR with up to 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness. A nano-texture anti-glare option is available.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
  • Ports: three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack. It supports up to two external displays.
  • Camera and audio: 12MP Center Stage camera, three mics and six speakers.
  • Software: it ships with macOS 27, which brings Apple’s new Siri AI features.

How much does the M6 MacBook Pro cost in India?

In India the base model costs ₹2,39,900, or ₹2,27,900 with education pricing. In the US it starts at $1,999, according to Investing.com’s report, which matches the M5 model’s US price.

Chargers cost extra in India: ₹5,800 for the 70W adapter, ₹8,900 for 96W and ₹11,900 for 140W. Factor that in if you want the fastest charging. Wall Street paid attention too: on 27 October 2026, Evercore ISI kept its Outperform rating on Apple with a $380 price target.

Should you buy now or wait for the touch MacBook Pro?

This is the question most buyers are asking. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has long reported that Apple is working on redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with OLED touchscreens. MacRumors reported that those panels go to M6 Pro and M6 Max models and not the base M6. Investing.com said that machine was expected to start above $2,499.

My take, and it is opinion: if you are on an Intel Mac or an M1 and you work on battery, the base M6 is a strong, safe buy. Apple says Intel upgraders gain up to 14 extra hours of battery and M1 owners up to 4. If you want OLED, touch or more than 32GB of memory, wait and see what the Pro and Max models bring. For the OLED rumours across the rest of the lineup, see our piece on what Gurman says Apple is testing.
